Indian Summer in Plymouth

Tuesday was an Indian Summer day here in Plymouth, with unusually warm weather, sunshine and a lovely day for a walk on the beach with friends. Edmund and Kay joined us on this gift of a day, and even though I had my 'big' Canon camera with me, I took these with my iPhone. The post processing was done on my iPad with Snapseed, my go-to editing software, always fun playing with it.

Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Plymouth, MA

The Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Plymouth has a twice yearly event to showcase their dancers, students and teachers alike. I spent a great evening photographing these talented artists with my friend Betty, here are a few of my photos. We are going to put them up on Smugmug for the performers to purchase their favorites and we can't wait to go back for their next showcase on May 19th. For $25 this is excellent entertainment at Plymouth Memorial Hall, lots of fun, come see it if you can!

Plymouth Thanksgiving Parade 2012

A few photos from American's Home Town of Plymouth, MA. It's my hometown now, too, and I love it here!!!  You can get a flavor of the people and the beautiful town I now call home.

We take Thanksgiving and the pilgrims seriously here :-)

Decorated for Christmas: Rotch-Jones-Duff House

The Rotch-Jones-Duff House  is an historical home in New Bedford, MA. Our camera club, Plymouth Digital Photographers Club, was fortunate to be able to have a private visit there on Saturday, thanks to Nancy M. who arranged everything for us. A beautiful home with willing volunteers who let us wander around finding wonderful things to photograph. We enjoyed a group lunch afterwards at a local Portuguese restaurant, what a fun day! Thanks, Nancy.

Gorgeous Sunset Last Night on Plymouth Beach!

Last minute yesterday after dinner Ian said, "Want to drive down to Plymouth Beach and see the birds and sunset?"  What a great idea that turned out to be! The birds Ian was looking for turned out to be just out of of optic reach, but we were treated to baby Piping Plovers and other beauties, including this sunset.

I only had my iPhone with me, but the photos turned out Ok with a little Snapseed app applied.

As to where Ian is, it's wonderful having him home with us in Plymouth after he was working for 7 weeks in Alaska on a Shorebird Research project with Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences and the US Fish and Wildlife Service in the Canning River Delta. He'll be heading back to college over Labor Day weekend for his junior year. 

After helping with our move and painting a lot of rooms in our new home :-)

Wise Words from a Judge in New Zealand - for Young People and Adults

I shake my head in disbelief at some of the things judges say ... but this hit the mark:

"Northland College (NZ) principal John Tapene has offered the following words from a judge who regularly deals with youth.

"Always we hear the cry from teenagers 'What can we do, where can we go?'
... My answer is, "Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons, and after you've finished, read a book."

"Your town does not owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun. The world does not owe you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely again."

"In other words, grow up, stop being a cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It's too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now and that somebody is you...""

You need to change some of the wording a bit, but this does apply to adults, too.
